is able to offer accommodation either on a permanent basis or for short convalescent stays. We can cater for respite care, allowing families to go on holiday with peace of mind. Facilities at St Catherines can cater for most medical, nursing, EMI and special needs associated with age and increasing dependency. How can I come to live at St Catherines?
Many clients who decide to make St Catherines their home will have been assessed through the local authority's Social Services Department, either whilst in hospital or in their own home. The social worker involved will make both a care needs assessment and a financial assessment.
Weekly Charges
Weekly charges at St Catherines are in-line with the approved rate as set by Sheffield Social Services. This means that most clients will be entitled to the full funding of nursing home fees, and they should also receive an additional personal allowance for their own use. Our charges will usually only vary if the local authority change their approved rate - usually in April. Current charges at St Catherines, inclusive of meals, accommodation and nursing care are set at
£ 366.00 per week General Medical Nursing Unit
£ 371.00 per week EMI Nursing Unit
Will I qualify for any money towards these charges?
If there is a social worker involved, they should give you general guidance as to how the system works. Please telephone Pension Credit on 0800 991234. You will need the following information: National Insurance Number, date of birth, details of home ownership, savings, retirement pension and any occupational pension or other income.
If you qualify for state funding, you will be informed by the local authority's Social Services Department of how much per week you must pay towards the above charges. You should receive both State Retirement Pension and Pension Credit. This is funding that you should use to pay your assessed contribution towards the nursing home charges. You should be left with a weekly personal allowance of between £ 17.50 and £ 22.00 to cover any personal care needs such as clothing, hairdressing, chiropody etc.
I do not qualify for Pension Credit as I am classified as a self-funded client
If you have substantial savings and/or are in receipt of a large occupational pension or other income, then you may not qualify for state funding (Pension Credit). However, some of the above weekly charges may be offset by you qualifying for
State Retirement Pension
Free Nursing Care
Attendance Allowance
